The broader context of 1 Corinthians 6:9 offers two important additional points of relevance to the issue of homosexual relations. First, through Christ’s justification and washing, the lifestyles of unbelief cited earlier in the passage must no longer characterize the Christian (v. 11). Second, Paul goes on to argue that a Christian’s body, now part of Christ’s own body and a temple of the indwelling Holy Spirit, should not be united with a prostitute, since intercourse involves becoming ‘one flesh’
